A typographic exploration of the 626 Night Market in Arcadia.
The 626 Night Market is a celebration of culture, cuisine, and night life. The maximalist imagery of Asian street life led me to typographically rebrand the event, changing its style but still capturing its grassroots essence.
Maximalist.
Asian night markets are commonly stocked with busy signage, grabbing your attention from meters away. I sought to use noisy imagery and experimental typographic styles to mimic those signs but also breathe new life into them.
“626” in three languages.
Staying true to culture also includes language and writing. Instead of one English logo, why not
have a dynamic logo with all cultures combined?
Chinese
Korean
Japanese
An ever-changing identity.
The event celebrates a multitude of cultures, including Chinese, Japanese, and Korean cultures. I wanted to have the logo be fluid and ever-changing, a blend of the 3 main cultures celebrated at the 626 Night Market.
Digital brushstrokes.
I wanted the typography to capture a digital simulation of the Asian culture, originally formed from the strokes of a black-ink brush.
